The Beginning
For those who ride their own wave.
From when the first song was written in 2009, all the way to when he conceptualised and wrote “Free Me Abeg” in 2018 only to be finally released in 2019. Damiete Amenté has turned this song into a mantra bringing together true and weird individuals who are done with outside noise.
Philosophy
No one should ever have to feel weird especially if they are.
Free Me Abeg embraces individuality. After watching the song take shape and carry on a life of it’s own Damiete Amenté believes it is his mission to offer an alternative to riding or chasing the wave, which is to BE THE WAVE by embracing our true selves.
The term Free Me Abeg literally means “Leave Me Please”. Other ways of saying it would be “Let Me Live”, “Leave Me Alone” and so on. Originating from Nigeria where the term can be used in various ways from jokingly among friends to seriously telling someone to leave you the hell alone.
“Abeg” simply means please, You could say, “Abeg come chop food” which in Pidgin English is simply an invitation to a meal.
